A chest X-ray for a first Malta work permit is part of the health screening required by the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate (HPDP). LifeScan in Naxxar performs the X-ray and emails you a radiologist's report, usually within 1–2 hours.
Since 4 May 2026, all work permit health screening goes through an online system. Paper forms are no longer accepted.

You need a chest X-ray if you were born in, or have lived for 6 months or more in, a country on HPDP's high or very high risk tuberculosis list. Applicants from other countries still need a health screening, but usually without a chest X-ray.
No. All tests for the health screening must be carried out in Malta through a private healthcare provider, so a chest X-ray taken abroad is not accepted.
The chest X-ray must be taken within 6 weeks of your health screening application date. Book it close to your doctor's appointment so it is still valid when your screening is submitted.
No. LifeScan performs the chest X-ray only. Your employer starts the application online, and a registered doctor completes and submits the screening, including your X-ray report. We email the report to you, and can also send a copy to your doctor.
We aim to issue your report within 1 to 2 hours, and often faster. The radiologist's report and a copy of your X-ray image are emailed to you.
Always book online: we do not take walk-ins. Same-day appointments are usually available, except on Sundays and public holidays.
No. You can book your work permit chest X-ray directly online without a referral.
